A circle of  friends who learn and

grow in Jesus Christ

“Riding for the Cure”

Each year the Parish Family of St. James opens the doors to our Church and our Homes to host cyclists riding to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis.

The MS150 is a 150-mile bicycle race from Houston to Austin...

With La Grange being the designated rest point for the cyclists, St. James is honored to host these weary riders and offer them a Christian home away from home.

Host Families are always NEEDED!

To become a Host or to arrange for accommodations, please contact:

Cathy in our Parish Office at 979-968-3910.

“The Holy Smokers”

The group, better known as "THE HOLY SMOKERS,"
host a drive-thru BBQ Chicken and Sausage
"Fundraiser to benefit OTHERS..."

Every second Saturday of the month beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Our Men's Group and those from the "benefactor of the month", awaken and begin stoking

the fires at 5 am (sometimes earlier) for a mouth-watering lunch!

Some would say it's our most successful form of outreach...

Come early and enjoy the fellowship of the "Holy Smokers"!

Our next "Fundraiser to benefit OTHERS" will be

The GREAT Turkey Cook

FRIDAY, November 22nd!

Helping Fayette County since 1996!

Second Chance is a resale store in La Grange, Texas that serves all of Fayette County.  The shop accepts donations from the public and resells items such as clothing, household goods, small appliances and furniture that are in good, working, usable condition. These items are sold at very low prices in order to benefit the underprivileged members of our community.  ALL profits from the sale of these items are then given to local charities which are selected by the Funds Committee of the Board of Directors.

Who benefits from Second Chance?

Many low-income families live in Fayette County.  Because Second Chance makes a point of keeping the prices low, these families are able to purchase clothing and shoes for themselves and their children, as well as necessary household items and even small gifts.

Throughout the year, one time distributions are made for other non-profit organizations that provide human services in Fayette County. The Mexico Missions of both the First Presbyterian Church and First United Methodist Church are given clothing and other items that are usable but have not sold in the shop.

Generous gifts of merchandise from the community and elsewhere, as well as many hours of volunteer work by friends and members of the sponsoring churches, have made the above contributions possible.

Who operates Second Chance?

The resale store is run by a coalition of seven La Grange churches, which receive no monies from Second Chance:

Second Baptist        St. James Episcopal        St. Paul Lutheran        Sacred Heart Catholic

Mt. Calvary Lutheran                 First United Methodist                       First Presbyterian

There are two permanent shop directors on staff; however, much of the work is done by unpaid volunteers from those seven churches.

What exactly do volunteers do?

There are no special skills needed.  Volunteers sort, price items & display items and assist customers and other volunteers with purchases.

When are volunteers needed?

The receiving building is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

More volunteers are always needed at the receiving building, whether or not you are affiliated with one of the above churches. Come any day and they will gladly put you to work!   This entire operation is co-coordinated by our very own -- Lil Landry & Marilyn Gibson!

Become a Purple Angel…

St. Mark's Auxiliary (aka The Purple Angels) are a 501(c)(3) organization comprised of men and women who are dedicated to making visitors and patients feel welcome at St. Mark's Medical Center. Many individuals volunteer for regular shifts, which are typically 4 hours per week (see full list below); but there are also opportunities for those who wish to volunteer occasionally by substituting, donating baked goods, working special events, etc.

Proceeds from volunteer fundraising endeavors are designated for the benefit of St. Mark's educational scholarships and facility equipment needs. The volunteers have raised thousands of dollars for scholarship and equipment, helping to make St. Mark's Medical Center one of the most technologically advanced medical facilities in the region.

A.M.E.N. was started in 1992 and is an interdenominational, non-profit, 501 c(3) organization that provides food, rent and utility assistance to residents of Fayette County.

A.M.E.N. operates solely on contributions and/or food donations received from churches, organizations, groups, and individuals. There are currently 13 churches that supply volunteers to A.M.E.N. that work on a weekly rotating basis.

All client applications are screened by client interviewers to determine the kind of assistance needed. A.M.E.N. is a Partner Affiliate with the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas. Capital Area Food Bank distributes an average of 15 million pounds of food per year, to more than 370 non-profit agencies in 21 Central Texas Counties, who then distribute the food to the people in need.

Plan for the future...

As a reminder, St. James has Columbarium Niches available in the Meditation Garden. This area has created a beautiful place for prayer and remembrance and provides an appropriate burial place for the cremated remains of our faithful departed.
The garden is a place for memory, comfort and support as a telling witness to the faith and hope of resurrection to eternal life.

A niche in either Columbarium is available for $1,500.00.
Proceeds received from the sale of niches will be placed in the St. James' Endowment Fund.
Please contact Terry Eastin at email for details.
