* Austin Bella Corda (ABC) guitar ensemble is comprised of outstanding pre-college guitarists from the Central Texas area. Over 24 young guitarists have come through its ranks since it began in 2003 in conjunction with the first performance of a guitar ensemble on the national radio show "From The Top." Austin Bella Corda plays eclectic programs of music from the medieval to the modern.
Reviewer Jason Boyd of Et Cetera e-zine wrote, "Austin Bella Cordawere amazing! They blew me away!. The kids had an emotional sensibility way beyond their years." In 2008, the group recorded a critically acclaimed recording of original music. One reviewer said, "The technique is masterful; the music lyrical...Sophisticated, alluring... quite simply, phenomenal." In 2010 a "USA Bella Corda" competed in the Guitar Orchestra Festival International and Competition in Bad Nauheim, Germany, and garnered the "Best Youth Ensemble" award. In 2017 ABC competed in the Guitar Foundation of America's International ensemble competition and received 1st prize. The various Austin Bella Corda guitar ensembles have performed over 100 concerts through the years from Festival Hill in Round Top to Washington DC.
Each year new pre-college students are accepted into the group to contribute their talents and to make music through this unique musical vehicle - the guitar ensemble. 2018/19 members are Sanjay Amirthraj, Olivia Bannister, EricKrausopf, Simon Krauskopf, Linden Meyer, Kabeer Motwani, Jonah Parrish, Elle Smith. The Director is Kevin Taylor.
* Aytahn Benavi, is 17 years old and attends LASA in Austin. Since age 11, he has earned 20 awards in regional, national and international guitar competitions, including a 2nd prize in the Guitar Foundation of America's international youth competition, 1st prize in the Indiana High School competition and the Domain Forget competition in Quebec. He recently won 1st prize in the Florida Guitar Festival competing against University students. In 2016 he was honored by the modern Italian master-composer, Angelo Gilardino, who wrote and dedicated a piece to Aytahn, which will be performed at the concert.
